New beginnings and growth, that’s the feel of May this year. As the weather goes from rain to sun and back again, everything outside is enjoying the play. The apple and cherry trees are in full bloom, and just now I caught a whiff of the lilac that the original owners of the land, the Smith’s, planted eons ago in our front garden.

Listening to the Rain
Fundraising, how do I listen to you? How do I speak to you?

As some may know, I was recently appointed to the position of Fundraising Director for the Blue Deer Center. I was asked to join in and help raise funds to support the activities of the Center, a Home for Ancestral Traditions.

While searching for tools and training for grant writing; we came across an opportunity to train not only ourselves, but to be of service to other organizations with similar needs.

The Foundation Center was established in 1956 and is the leading authority on organized philanthropy serving grant seekers, grant makers, researchers, policymakers, the media and the general public.

FIREBALL 2008
The Blue Deer Center - A Contemporary Home for Ancestral Traditions - Coming Home

Blue Deer Center, June 21, 2008

The Blue Deer Center is a sacred place, on land and river revered by the original peoples who gathered here for council and learning. Coming home to the BDC supports a way of life that recognizes and respects the paths of ancient tradition.

The Blue Deer Center invites you, your family and friends to the Fireball, our annual Fundraising Campaign Kick-Off Celebration. Enjoy a delicious Southwest-inspired Feast -prepared by the Out of the Blue Chefs. Get spicy at the Fireball Salsa Contest! Bring your Homemade Salsa for sampling and you might win a prize! Dance to the rhythms of Blue Paradox through the afternoon and into the evening PLUS participate in our Silent Auction + 3 Raffles + Huichol Art Boutique.

After all the feasting, bidding, and dancing, come sit by the Fire with Tsaurirrikame Eliot Cowan, an initiated shaman in the tradition of the Huichol Indians. A special time for community, learning and inspiration.

The Blue Deer Center is growing in our service to people seeking a deeper connection to life. Your support of the Fireball helps us to bring elders and wisdom holders of ancestral traditions to the BDC for the benefit of all beings, for our communities, and for our children. The Blue Deer Center invites you, your family and friends to the Fireball.
