This 3-day mushroom retreat will cover how Fungi can help people and regenerate the planet. We will immerse ourselves in identification, life cycle and ecology, medicinal properties & preparations, & mushroom cultivation.

Whether you are a beginner or expert mycologist there is much to learn about the world of Fungi. This retreat is relevant to teachers, wilderness educators, farmers, chefs, gardeners, homesteaders, hobbyists, DIY-ers or anyone excited to learn about fungi.

All participants will leave with:

• A deeper appreciation & understanding of fungi

• A self-made mushroom tincture

• A self-made oyster mushroom inoculation

• A self-made Wine-cap Stropharia mushroom inoculation

Friday Night
Introduction Circle
Evening Presentation: Fungi 101 - Kingdom overview, life cycle, environmental functions, & characteristics of mushrooms.
Possible mushroom walk.
Optional: Movie, identification/discussion.

8:30AM - Breakfast
9:15AM - Mushroom Walk: How to identify mushrooms we find in the woods, easy edibles, resources for identification, nation-wide species survey, & citizen science.
12:30PM - Lunch
2PM - Medicinal Mushrooms: tincture making workshop, kombucha, fermentation & growing beneficial mycobiomes. Make your own chaga tincture.
3:30PM - Break
4:30PM - Outdoor Cultivation: Shiitake on Logs, Stropharia on woodchips & slurry method. Cultivate your own shiitake log.
6PM - Dinner
8PM - Optional: fire pit open discussion, music jam, identification session, movie.

8:30AM - Breakfast
9:15AM Indoor Inoculation: Oysters on Coffee/Sawdust. Grow your own oyster kit.
Presentation: The Future of Fungi
Closing Circle.

John is the owner of Catskill Fungi whose mission is to empower people through Fungi via outdoor guided mushroom classes, cultivation courses, educational talks, private consultations, mushroom art, and mushroom health supplements which he makes from mushrooms he grows on his family farm in the Catskill Mountains.

Cost: $385 (includes lodging on Friday and Saturday, plus dinner on Friday through breakfast on Sunday)

A commuter rate of $225 per person includes meals as above and no lodging.

Cancellation Policy:  Cancellation of your reservation more than 14 days prior to arrival entitles you to a full refund of tuition less a $25 processing fee. If you cancel 8 to 14 days prior to arrival, your program fee, less a $25 processing fee, will be held for you to use in another future program up to a year.  If you cancel 2 to 7 days prior to arrival, your program fee, less a $25 processing fee and food costs, will be held for you to use in another future program up to a year. No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations received less than 48 hours before a program’s start date. Refunds will be processed within 2 weeks of cancellation.
