Reaching Out To You

I welcome you to our recently revised and all-new eNewsletter.  This will be coming to you every quarter to keep you informed of the many activities at the Center.  Please let us know if you have specific topics that you are interested in, so that we can keep you up-to-date.

You may have already seen the work Maggie Flynn has done in revising our website www.bluedeer.org. The new site is easy to navigate and will soon feature a more expansive calendar page.  If you haven’t been to the site lately, take a look to learn more about the offerings of the Center and the people involved.

You have seen the e-Bulletins we are sending out with all the offerings that Melissa Claire is bringing to the Center.  If you have been to the Center recently, you have seen the work that is being done on the land: the river cleanup, bank stabilization, the start of a garden, and moving around of tipis and tents.

Behind the scenes, the Fundraising department has been working on two major projects: “Keep the Home Fires Burning” and “Shelter Us from the Storm” Campaigns.  “Keep the Home Fires Burning” was a project brought to life over a meal at the BDC to lessen the Center’s dependence on oil and to lower our operating costs.

The Campaign is a 3-phase approach with the first being the purchase of a wood-fired boiler and its installation and hook-up to the Main building.  This first phase will be completed by the Fall of 2009.  The second phase is to hook-up and plumb the Guesthouse, and the third phase is to tie in the Green house too.

Shelter Us from the Storm” is an essential project that we are undertaking to replace the roofs on the Guesthouse and Main house.  This is a $50,000 project that we can delay no longer.  We are expecting to start work in late August, but we still need additional funds to be able to complete this project.
