The Dances of Universal Peace
by Tasnim Hermila Fernandez

The Dances of Universal Peace are an outgrowth of the Sufi Message of Love, Harmony and Beauty as well as that of the Unity of Religious Ideals. We use sacred words and names from most of the religious and spiritual traditions of the world as the inspiration for our dances. Most of them are very simple in form, easy to do by nearly everyone and are truly uplifting and can transform the atmosphere in a group in a very short time. continued...

River Ceremonyby Annie Eagan, Marakame & Weather Worker, Shaman-In-Residence at the BDC

There is a song that sings through the land of the Blue Deer Center. It is the song of the sacred river, Saskawhihiwine. She has been singing for thousands of years, nurturing the ancestors and all the beings of the land with her wisdom and her sustaining waters.

At this year’s Fireball, we had a ceremony to honor the river and to listen to her song. First, we gathered around the fire to connect our hearts and start orienting our listening towards the river and the life all around her. We spoke of the indigenous ancestors who honored her and recognized her sacredness and gifts. continued...

Coming Into Autumn by Peter Brown

The leaves are starting to fall off the trees, and the winds are bringing a new sharpness to the day. The light has brought clarity to our vision, with the Sun receding from its place high in the sky.

The Blue Deer Center has had a wonderful Spring of renewed growth; a Summer of true ripening of our purpose and place on this earth; and an Autumn that has brought forth the fruit of many fulfilled program participants, a firmer financial base, a new crop of Elders coming to the Center. Our structures have received new roofs, and a new wood-fired boiler has been purchased and is waiting to be installed.

It has been a true turning point for the Blue Deer Center. continued...

Summer Business Meetingsby Keiko Cronin

This summer the Blue Deer Center team gathered at Rockaway Beach, Oregon for our business meetings. Camp Magruder provided a spectacular setting – forested mountains on one side, the sound of Grandmother Ocean all around us, and the guiding wisdom of Grandfather Fire. These meetings are a time of intense work and joyful inspiration for all of us in bringing forth the gifts that the Center offers to the world.

The Sacred Fire Foundation and Sacred Fire Community held their meetings at the same time. One of the outcomes of our time together was the realization that it is time for the three organizations to choose a project that we can mutually support. continued...
